Epson have been making quality, value for money multi function printers for a number of years and they continue to do so with their new offering – the Stylus SX405. At under a £100 the SX405 in good value and its spec sheet promises a vast range of features including photo quality printing, high resolution scanning and photo copying as well as a built in card and reader and LCD screen to enable printing of photos without the need for a computer. When you consider the Stylus SX405 is basically three machines in one (printer, scanner and photo copier) it’s amazing compact and looks very stylish with its jet black finish. One down side of Epson printers is they tend to be a little slower in terms of print speed then their competitor’s printers. The SX405 prints up to 34 ppm (pages per minute) and a 10×15cm photo in 24 seconds, however this is with the printer set in draft quality mode, increases the quality will reduce the speed considerably. Ink for the Stylus SX405 comes in the form of four individual ink cartridges (T0771-T0714) and can be bought in a multi-pack for under £30. Epson SX405 compatible ink is also avaible from a number of retailers at high the price of the genuine Epson ink. Overall the Stylus SX405 is a great value for money all-in-one printer ideally suited to the home or small office user.
